“Bring Love and Joy to my World.” Courtesy of bringlaughter.com

It was the weight of a huge boulder upon my heart
crushing the very soul of my spirit from my body.
It was the realization that I was not loved.

Without Love in our lives
we are just walking pieces of flesh
without joy
without laughter
without peace.

my mind reached back
to memories of when I was loved.
Wrapped in these thoughts
I was able to regain my breath
I pulled death away from my body.

I will await another day
with a joy of anticipation
that my future bride
awaits me
in the future
before me.

This hope gives me
strength to face
another day
without the love
I so desperately need
in my life.

Every writer and/or poet have their favorites. This poem is one of my favorites. Enjoy and be joyful.

John J. Rigo, Texas' Poet and Commentator's avatarTexas Poetry

Embrace your Youth.
The ticks of time move more quickly
than observed or counted.

Embrace the Love of your Youth.
The embers lose their warm and glow
more quickly than our memories will capture.

Embrace the Wisdom
that is bestowed upon you.
It will carry you
through the dark days
before you.

Curse not your regrets.
They are but markers along the road.
Regrets render the opportunity
to seek forgiveness.

Embrace your Lord
with Love and Worship.
He will Bless you along the road
and to the final place
of His Love for you.

“A Voice Within”

Within me a voice calls to be heard.
Sonnets of love lost and found again
in the spirit of my sweet Jesus.

Raise not your halting hand in ignorance.
Let not your lips cease my songs of poetry.
My songs are my life.

I have faced death
with fear sucking the breath from me.
It was my prayers to God
that lead me to the light of His Love.

Let my stories be heard.
There are those that need to hear my story.
In so hearing will the light that I found
will also be their light of hope and joy.

This poem was included in my second published poetry book. It brought the horror of 9/11 clearly to me.

John J. Rigo, Texas' Poet and Commentator's avatarTexas Poetry

The following poem was written on the afternoon of 9-11.  It relates to the sorrow and pain of our country losing loved ones in a senseless killing of innocence in the deaths of 2,973.

“Red, White and Blue” copyright 9-11-2001 John J. Rigo

Red, White and Blue are the colors before me on this day.

It will be a day remembered by numbers used to summon help.

Nine, One and One, bring only the recall of white dust,

rock, and twisted steel in a sea of sorrow.

Can these tears wash away the pain

that this day brings?

Tears shed for those we love and are no more.

I cry out for my Brothers and Sisters in the depth of pain

that befalls their hearts.

Could there be a greater sin,

then a day so dark?

I think not.

I pray for peace, comfort, and hope,

for the souls…

I broke your heart.
I know when the deed was done.
I knew then
as I know now
I was in love with you.

More afraid of failure
than giving myself to you.
I still can hear in my soul
the sound of your tears
on the tape from that day.

Two hours of tears and screaming
my name in agony.
I was the center of your agony
in my rejection of your love.

It has been twenty-five years
since that day.
A day never goes by
that my thoughts turn to you.

In my being
I now know
that the joy I knew with you then
will come again in my death
and hopefully with it
the joy of heaven.

If you are reading this
at this very moment
know this is one
who will always love you.

I recall telling my wife many years ago that within every man is a Knight in Shining Armour. Their only desire in life is to be the hero to their maiden.

John J. Rigo, Texas' Poet and Commentator's avatarTexas Poetry

I awoke
as from a sleep
of death.

Long gentle fingers
were rubbing my forehead
the side of my face
touching my lips.

As my eyes opened
I knew I was no longer
on my prior world of earth.

Before me I beheld
a beautiful maiden
of golden hair
skin of cream and light
eyes of blue/grey and gold.

There was no fear within me.
I was at a place where I was meant to be.
I was home in a castle of my Lord’s place for me.

My eyes gazed upon my body.
Upon me where plates of armour.
Gold-Silver and various jewels
incrusted upon them.

As the maiden raised my head
I observed the symbols upon my breast-plate.
In the middle in Gold was a Lion.

On each side of it were Dragons
standing with their feet gently
touching the…

I find myself lately thinking more and more of my past. At the end of this year my life will undergo a great change. I will have to let go of a home that I dearly love where my primary home is currently located in McKinney, Texas. I will be moving from a city home to a country home in the form of a farm in East Texas. It will be to pursue a dream that my wife has had for many years. I can only hope that her decision to leave our city home, the only real home I have known for over forty years, will be the right direction for our lives.  Lord bless my soon to be journey.

Often I think of you
in the time of our youth
when it was just us.

Sunshine glowed when we were together.
The grief of our former lives made us a pair.
Then our lives were simpler
filled with few things
but rich in much love.

Somethimes I wonder if you think of me on occasion.
Did you put aside
as I have
the separation of our love
the anger
the hurt
that we both suffered?

Beauty is in those memories.
The thoughts of us at that time are sweeter
and more beautiful when they cross my mind.

In daydreams of simpler times
my thoughts question where you are now
and did you find happiness?
Did you have the children
that we never had?

Althought many years have passed
I send to you my love from a former time
with blessing for your…

It had been many years since he felt that way.
It was a rerun in his memory of the past.
There was fifty years between them.
She was outright flirting with him.

He was uncomfortable with it.
He was sitting right there with his Bride.
She acted like his bride was not even in the room.

Maybe it was how she got right into his face.
She looked at him like he was something really special.
She touched his knee under the table
as she kneeled before them on the side of the table
to take their dinner order.

Just when he accepted that his youth was long gone
she had to come along and remind him
what it felt like to be desired.
She was unfair in doing what she did.

Leaving behind the passions of youth
is not an easy thing for a man to do.
The move from passion to wisdom
is painful for any man.

Perhaps ladies there is a lesson here.
Men of Passion never die in their hearts.
The burning heat of creation is part of their DNA.
Never treat your man like he is no longer alive.

Within every silver-headed man
still lies the young boy
remembering
wanting
desiring.

Laugh not at Passion.
It is as old as the centuries.
Forever faithful.
Forever remembering.
What it was like
to have been loved.

Commentary on Poem:  Shortly after I posted this poem and shared it with one of my friends, their comment was, “John, some folks would just about do anything for a big tip, especially a twenty year old.”  His comment was filled with great laughter.  Frankly I joined the laughter with many big “Ha-Ha’s” on my part.  There is much truth in the saying,  “There is no fool, like an old fool.” Lol

“An Exploding Sun” Courtesy of cbsnews.com

A Sun in our universe
exploding into billions of pieces of ash.
An existence of billions of years.

A daily occurrence in our Universe
is such in the millions of light years
around us.

Our lifetimes upon this Earth
but an average of seventy-odd years.
Dust and ash will we also become.

Is there a difference in these two happenings?
We can only pray there is
in an eternal soul blessed by the Father.

Make a difference in the Universe.
It is your gift to your Father.
Give a part of yourself this day.

A bright blue sky day.
Water with a spray of diamonds.
Rays of warmth upon my face.

You at my side
with that special smile
that I love above all expressions
that pass over your face each day.

Let us hold this close to us
in what seems not enough time for
just the two of us.

Cherish this day
love this day
with all we have.

For we will never know
how many
if any
of these days are before us.

We have each other
with our love for one another.
What could be worth
more than just this day?
